Stephen Reichert, the editor and founder of Smartish Pace, will discuss the changes that have occurred in his print and online publication over the past twelve years, as well as the trends and challenges facing the literary publishing industry today as it becomes more and more reliant on the web.
Bradley Paul & Megan Snyder-Camp Reading

L.A. poet Bradley Paul will read from The Obvious (2004), selected by Brenda Hillman for the New Issues Poetry Prize, and The Animals All Are Gathering (Pittsburgh, 2010), winner of AWP'S Donald Hall Prize in Poetry. Seattle poet Megan Snyder-Camp will read from The Forest of Sure Things (Tupelo Press, 2010). Paul's poems appeared in Smartish Pace, Issue 15 and Snyder-Camp's in Smartish Pace, Issue 11. Smartish Pace is excited to have these wonderful poets in Baltimore for our reading, and we look forward to seeing you on Sept. 18th!

Issue 18 Party in BVI

That's right: SP invades the BVI! Issue 18 poet Richard Georges will read his poetry and SP super editors Traci O'Dea & Freeman Rogers will read selections from the new issue. Copies of Smartish Pace Issue 18 will be available for $10 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the new library collection at H Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Doug Lang Reading for Bar-Big-Po-Pot-Smart Reading for Drinkers

A five lit-mag reading organized by the cool cats from The Writer's Center! Writers featured in Barrelhouse, Big Lucks, Poet Lore, Potomac Review & Smartish Pace will read a poem or short story while you drink a brew or two. Doug Lang will read poetry for Smartish Pace. He is a Welsh poet who has lived in DC since 1973. Lang has taught at the Corcoran College of Art & Design since 1976. In the Works: Selected poems 1973-2010 is forthcoming from Edge Books. His poems appear in SP #15.
Poe-apalooza

Michael Collier & David Gewanter Poetry Reading

The Smartish Pace Reading Series continues with poets Michael Collier and David Gewanter. Collier is the author of five books of poems, most recently Dark Wild Realm; and co-editor of A William Maxwell Portrait. Poet Laureate of Maryland from 2001–2004, his poems appeared in Smartish Pace, Issue 17. Gewanter is the author of three books of poems: In the Belly, The Sleep of Reason and War Bird; and co-editor of Robert Lowell: Collected Poems. His poetry appears in Smartish Pace, Issue 9. Gewanter is a professor at Georgetown University.
