We welcome unsolicited submissions of poetry, translations of poetry, book reviews, essays on poetry and interviews with poets.
Print issues of Smartish Pace contain new poetry and translations of poetry. Our website contains book reviews, essays on poetry and interviews with poets.
Submissions must be made via e-mail. We no longer accept submissions via postal mail (though we still accept postal submissions for our two prizes--see our contest section). We will not consider submissions that don't follow the guidelines, so please read carefully.
The e-mail subject line should contain your name only: First Last.
The body of the e-mail should contain the following:

Mailing Address
E-mail Address
1. Poem Title
2. Poem Title
3. Poem Title...
Your Bio
Your poems should be attached to the e-mail in a separate document (Word is best). The poems should appear in the same order as they are listed in the body of your e-mail. Please include all of your contact information again at the beginning of your submission and your bio at the end.
Submit no more than 6 poems.
We will consider poems of any length, style and subject matter.
We will not consider previously published poems. We regard poems that have appeared ANYWHERE on the Internet as published.
Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Please inform us if a poem submitted to Smartish Pace has been accepted elsewhere for publication. When informing us, please put your name (First Last) only in the subject line and the unavailable poem information in the body of the e-mail.
Please do not submit another manuscript until you receive word regarding the first submission. Do not submit more than once per year.
Please allow up to 8 months for a decision. Please do not e-mail us requesting the status of your submission unless 8 months has passed since you submitted.
We pay one copy. We acquire first serial rights (copyright reverts back to poet upon publication).
We are always reading submissions.
