Carol Muske-Dukes is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently Sparrow (Random House, 2003), a National Book Award finalist, and An Octave Above Thunder: New & Selected Poems (Penguin, 1997). Channeling Mark Twain (Random House, 2008) and Life After Death (Random House, 2001) are the most recent of her four novels. Maried to the Icepick Killer, A Poet in Hollywood (essays, Random House, 2002) and Women and Poetry: Truth, Autobiography and the Shape of the Self (reviews & essays, Michigan, 1997) were both New York Times Most Notable Books. She has won numerous honors including a Guggenheim fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, the Witter Bynner award from the Library of Congress, the Castagnola award from the Poetry Society of America and several Pushcart Prizes. She is professor of English and Creative Writing and founding Director of the PhD Program in Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Southern California.
