Stephen Reichert founded Smartish Pace in 1998. He studied philosophy and baseball at Trinity College (IL) and law at the University of Maryland. He paints and makes stuff; he also plays in the band Mr. Moccasin with SPer Jared Fischer and in a guitar/synth duo with SPer Danny Todd. He lives in Baltimore.
Daniel Todd

Daniel Todd teaches English at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. He lives in Cincinnati with his wife and three children, and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 1998.
Dan Cryer

Dan Cryer lives in Albuquerque and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 1999. He's a grad student in UNM's Rhetoric and Writing program, where he teaches composition and technical writing, and coordinates events for the Writing Across Communities initiative.
Clare Banks

Clare Banks has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2000. She received her MFA in poetry from the University of Maryland. An editor and poet, she lives in Baltimore with her husband, two children, and 1 to 10 fish.
Traci O'Dea

Traci O'Dea lives in the Virgin Islands and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2003. Highlights of her career as an associate editor include publishing new poems by Medbh McGuckian, procuring new translations by John Hollander, co-founding and judging the Beullah Rose Poetry Prize, organizing the issue release parties, and, of course, co-hosting the AWP event at the TravelLodge Atlanta.

Freeman Rogers lives in the Virgin Islands and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2004.
Jake Ricafrente

Jake Ricafrente resides in Atlanta, GA, and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2006. He holds an MFA from The Johns Hopkins University and a PhD from Texas Tech University. Each summer, he serves on the staff at the Sewanee Writers' Conference.
Kristin Lindholm

Kristin Lindholm is an Associate Professor of Communication at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois. She regularly directs plays, oversees Trinity’s annual Fine Arts Festival, and provides consultation for The Trillium, Trinity’s fine arts journal. Kristin’s current research projects focus on how people communicate in the context of illness and death, particularly in hospice programs. She has been a member of Smartish Pace since 1999.
Clifford Williams

Clifford Williams teaches philosophy at Trinity College in Deerfield, IL. He is the faculty advisor for the college's arts journal and has published articles in professional philosophy journals plus a number of books, including Free Will and Determinism: A Dialogue (Hackett, 1980), Singleness of Heart: Restoring the Divided Soul (Eerdmans, 2004), and One More Train to Ride: The Underground World of Modern American Hoboes (Indiana University Press, 2003). He has been a member of Smartish Pace since 1999.
Jared Fischer

Jared T. Fischer lives in Baltimore and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2005. He is a journalist who frequently contributes to the Baltimore City Paper, b the paper, and Metromix. He also writes fiction and poetry—much of which he posts on rainbowkolor.blogspot.com—and composes music for the punk/folk band Mr. Moccasin. Additionally, his vocal and musical talents were embodied by the spaced-out mule in the TV series Creature Comforts US created by Aardman Animations, of Wallace and Gromit fame.
Jocelyn Heath

Jocelyn Heath earned her MFA in poetry from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2011. She writes poetry, which has appeared most recently in Poet Lore and Sinister Wisdom, and contributes book reviews to Lambda Literary. She became a member of Smartish Pace in 2011.

Paul Armstrong lives in Cincinnati and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 1999. He designed all three Smartish Pace websites (versions: 1998, 2002, 2008).
Diane Banks
Director of Development
Diane Banks lives in Nashville and has been a member of Smartish Pace since 2005. She holds a Ph.D in religion from Vanderbilt and her book Writing the History of Israel was published in 2006. Diane has secured grants from the Maryland State Arts Council for the support of Smartish Pace poetry readings held at the Contemporary Museum of Art in Baltimore and The Walters Art Museum.

P.S. Dean is a third year MFA candidate in poetry at the University of Mississippi. His work has appeared in Mary, Palooka Journal, and The Country Dog Review. Dean lives in New Orleans, LA.
Tracy Gnadinger

Born in Louisville, Tracy Gnadinger received a BS in psychology from Xavier University in 2009 and is working on her MFA in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts at the University of Baltimore. She has recently been published in The Athenaeum and Word Catalyst Literary Magazine. She lives in Baltimore.
Andrew Sargus Klein

Andrew Sargus Klein graduated from the University of Michigan in 2007 with degrees in History of Art and Poetry. He lives in Baltimore and is a financial editor, essayist, poet, and the caretaker of a very cranky cat.

Elena Osawa

Born in Honolulu, Elena Osawa studies painting, illustration, and creative writing at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is currently based in Baltimore and Tokyo.

Austin Tally is a recent graduate of the Writing Seminars department at Johns Hopkins University where he won the Chaffee Writing Prize. He has taught poetry classes and workshops at several Baltimore schools including Baltimore School for the Arts and the Barclay School. He also plays in the band Silent Whys.
